On The Road, a 2012 drama film, is an adaption from the hit novel by the same name written by author Jack Kerouac. On The Road will definitely be anticipated highly by those that remember reading the book fifty years ago when the book was the talk of the town for the entire country.
Dean (Sam Riley) and Sal (Garrett Hedlund) and the epitome of the Beat Generation; cool cat writers of the post World War II generation. They’ve decided to travel the continental United States in search of that “It”. Their adventures are chronicled in the book.
On their travels, they meet all sorts of people, including William S. Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg, who would go onto to become stars in the own right. The two buddies later write about their wild times in the book and will be the center of the plot.
Directed by Walter Salles, On The Road has been in the works for years as many producers have tried to find the perfect adaption for the historic book. Filming ironically took place in Canada, with spots in Quebec substituting for Denver in the 40’s. One thing is for sure – there was no time in America like when this movie took place, and the film highlights that beautifully.
