Damsels in Distress, a 2012 American comedy film, brings back to life the teen comedies of yesteryear and does so with fervor. Starring Greta Gerwig, Adam Brody, and Analeigh Tipton, these “Damsels” back a hilariously funny punch is this low-key flick.
Taking place at East Coast University East Oak, a trio of girls are deathly bored with their mediocre school and it’s uninteresting population. Even half a century after females have been introduced to the all-male school, its distribution is uneven and the girls are the ones suffering from their sad counterparts.
In an effort to spice things up at the college, the girls decide to take another under their wing and help build the school up to the high standards of the East Coast. After an attempt at the student orientation, and a series of romantic relationships with some interesting men, these girls end up getting more than they bargained for.
Directed by Whit Stillman, the film has been met with great reviews while premiering at the 68th Venice Film Festival as well as the 2011 Toronto Film Festival. The film is set to release on April 6th to a limited audience in the Los Angeles and New York City Metro.
