Luke Wright (Jason Statham), a second-rate cage fighter, is living an unenviable life in the mixed martial arts circuit inNew Jersey. But things quickly spiral even further downwards for him after he blows a rigged fight. Deciding to make an example of him, the Russian Mafia murder his family, threaten to kill anyone else that he forms any kind of friendship or relationship with, and banish him to live completely isolated from society. Homeless and destitute, Luke wanders the streets of New York haunted by guilt and hovering on the edge of suicide.
Mei (Catherine Chan) is a 10-year-old Chinese math prodigy. Abducted from her home by the Triads, she has been brought to the U.S.to serve as a “counter” for the Triads’ extortion racquets. It’s a perfect arrangement for the Triads: because Mei keeps all of the numbers in her head, there is no paper or electronic trail. But things go from bad to worse for Mei after Triad Leader Han Jiao (James Hong) gives Mei a secret number to memorize. Mei is violently kidnapped by the Russian Mafia, as this number is a priceless numerical code that the Triads, the Russian mob and a corrupt element of the NYPD will kill for.
Luke and Mei’s lives collide when Luke witnesses the frightened girl being pursued by the same Russian Mafia members who killed his wife. Luke impulsively jumps into action, putting his life on the line to try to save Mei’s life and redeem his own.
