On January 18, 2013, when Lionsgate releases The Last Stand, movie goers will get to see what happens when director Kim Jee-Woon put Arnold Schwarzeneggar and a super-cool Gumpert Apollo race car in the same crime thriller. The Gumpert Apollo is a street legal race car favored by drug smugglers. In the film the most-wanted drug cartel kingpin in the hemisphere uses a Gumpert Apollo in a spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy, speeding towards the Mexican border at 200 mph. In his first leading role since starring in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines in 2003, Schwarzeneggar stars as Sheriff Owens, sheriff of the sleepy border town, Sommerton Junction.
Naturally, Owens has not always resided in this sleepy little town where little crime ever occurs. This is simply where he ended up, wracked with failure and defeat, after a bungled operation at the LAPD left his partner permanently crippled. Now the escaped drug kingpin his heading directly towards Sommerton Junction, bringing a hostage and a fierce army of gang members with him. The only thing standing in his way before he slips across the border forever is Sheriff Owens and his woefully inexperienced squad.
Based on a screenplay by Andrew Knauer and Jeffrey Nachmanoff, The Last Stand also stars Zach Gilford, Forest Whitaker, Luis Guzman, Rodrigo Santoro, Johnny Knoxville, Jaimie Alexander, Eduardo Noriega, Peter Stormare, Harry Dean Stanton, and Genesis Rodriguez.
