It’s the year 2047, and although time travel does not yet exist, there are a group of killers who are heavily involved in it. These killers, known as Loopers, work for a crime syndicate in the future. When the mafia from 2077 – a time when time travel does exist but is illegal and only available on the black market – wants to get rid of someone, they simply send them back in time, hog-tied and blind-folded, to be shot in the head by one of the Loopers. Each Looper knows the drill: all targets must be killed and their bodies disposed of. No target can ever escape.
Joe Simmons (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a Looper working for a Kansas City mafia company. Joe is making a good living and all is well until the day that the mob from the future decides to “close the loop” and send Joe’s future self (played by Bruce Willis) back to 2047 for Joe to assassinate.
Joe’s older self escapes after incapacitating the younger Joe. With two versions of Joe running around, the younger Joe struggles to hunt down the older Joe while trying to escape from the brutal Gat Men, the enforcers in this whole scheme.
Written and directed by Rian Johnson, Loopers is set for release on September 28, 2012 by TriStar Pictures (Sony). The action thriller also features Emily Blunt, Paul Dana, Qing Xu, Noah Segan, Jeff Daniels, Piper Perabo and Garret Dillahunt.
