After serving 28 years for refusing to snitch on his partners-in-crime, aging mobster Val (Al Pacino) is finally released from prison. Eager to make up for lost time, he reunites with his best friend Doc (Christopher Walken) and old pal Hirsch (Alan Arkin) to relive their glory days in a wild night of drugs, sex and crime. Their friendship is instantly rekindled. As the trio romp through the city, they reminisce about their old times and adventures, while Val struggles (often humorously) to keep up with the new technology and changing social mores of the world he’s missed out on for almost three decades.
However, the trio’s reunion isn’t all fun and games. Doc bears a terrible burden: a mob boss has charged him to kill Val within 24 hours, or else face the mob boss’ wrath. Can he kill his best friend, the man who protected him from the law’s eye for all those years? Can he risk putting his family in jeopardy for the sake of a man he hasn’t seen in decades? As time runs down, the trio must face their past if they are to continue their present.
