In The Wolverine, the sixth installment in the X-Men franchise, Logan (Hugh Jackman) travels to Japan in order to train with a samurai warrior. An eternal fighter and perpetual outsider, Logan soon finds himself confronting a mysterious figure from his past. Will his experience and powers be enough to prove victorious? And will he emerge the same man if he does?
The Wolverine takes place after Professor Xavier’s death and the X-Men’s subsequent disbandment at the end of the last ensemble film. Loosely based around the celebrated 1982 comic book miniseries by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller, this film follows Logan at the height of his isolation and explores the tangled web of loyalties in which he has trapped himself. Logan’s body may be invincible, but his heart can sure feel the pain. As he plunges deeper into the underbelly of Japan, Logan must find his new purpose if he hopes to overcome the loss of everything he has held dear. It’s samurai steel versus adamantium claw—and only one can come out triumphant.
Written by Christopher McQuarrie, Scott Frank, James Mangold, and Mark Bomback, and directed by James Mangold, The Wolverine will see a theatrical release on July 26, 2013. This 20th Century Fox action/adventure film also stars Will Yun Lee, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima, and Brian Tee.
